Decision details

To grant authority to accept external funding into the Council from Sheffield City Region for the purpose of meeting the costs to reopen Ponds Forge Sports Centre.

That the Leader of the Council:-

1.    approves Sheffield City Council becoming the Accountable Body for third party liabilities and payments of the grant to Sheffield City Trust up to a value of £2.388m on the basis outlined in the report;

2. notes that arrangements will be put in place to finalise the funding arrangements and put in place any required monitoring/reporting arrangements; and

3. delegates authority to the Director of Culture and Environment, in consultation with the Director of Legal and Governance and the Director of Finance and Commercial Services, to take such steps not already delegated as they deem appropriate to achieve the outcomes set out in the report.

The financial support from Sheffield City Region will support the Council’s costs relating to the re-opening of Ponds Forge.

The alternative option considered was to fully fund the re-opening of Ponds Forge from Council reserves.  This option was not considered to be in the best interest of the Council.
