Domestic Abuse Strategy - Support for Victims and Children in Safe Accommodation

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Purpose:

To approve a new strategy detailing Sheffield’s plans for the provision of support to victims and their children residing in safe accommodation. Under Part 4 of the Domestic Abuse Act 2021, Local Authorities are required to prepare and publish a strategy by 31st October 2021. Locally this will form an appendix to our already existing Domestic and Sexual Abuse Strategy.

 

Decision:

That the Executive Member for Health and Social Care:

 

Approve for publication and adopt the Sheffield Domestic Abuse Safe Accommodation Strategy 2021-24, which is attached to this report along with the corresponding executive summary.

 

Reasons for the decision:

The wording for the draft strategy has been approved by the Strategy Leadership Board and has been consulted on widely with stakeholders, providers and both current and former service users.

 

It will provide a strategic plan for the city to address issues around domestic abuse safe accommodation and specialist support that affect thousands of people in Sheffield each year. Its aim is to ensure that Sheffield continues to provide high quality domestic abuse safe accommodation with specialist support to enable victims / survivors and their children to recover from the harm caused by domestic abuse.

 

Alternative options considered:

The development and publication of a Domestic Abuse Safe Accommodation Strategy is a statutory duty placed on the local authority therefore no other options were able to be considered.
